2026 CREDIT REPORT REVIEW CHECKLIST

Move from a full report to a focused issue list.

01

Get all three reports

  • Request current reports from the federally authorized AnnualCreditReport.com website.
  • Save or print each report separately and note the date you accessed it.
  • Do not assume the same information appears on Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.
02

Review identity information

  • Check your name, name variations, addresses, phone numbers, and employers.
  • Mark information that is unfamiliar, incomplete, mixed with another person, or connected to suspected fraud.
  • Do not dispute accurate historical information simply because it is old or unfavorable.
03

Review every account

  • Compare creditor names, account type, ownership, status, balance, credit limit, and payment history.
  • Check open and closed dates, late-payment notations, collection details, and remarks.
  • Write down the exact field you believe is inaccurate and the records that support your concern.
04

Check inquiries and public information

  • Separate hard inquiries from soft inquiries and promotional reviews.
  • Mark any application or hard inquiry you do not recognize.
  • Review bankruptcy or other public-record information for correct identity, court, dates, and status.
05

Build a clean issue list

  • Use one line for each specific company, account, bureau, and reporting problem.
  • State what is reported, why you believe it is inaccurate or incomplete, and what correction you are requesting.
  • Gather only relevant supporting records and keep originals under your control.
06

Track every next step

  • Record the date, recipient, delivery method, tracking number, and expected response period.
  • Save copies of everything you send and every response you receive.
  • Review investigation results carefully before deciding whether another supported step is appropriate.
